How To Make Your Devices Read To You
Yep, you read that right!
A lot of us know that we can dictate our text to our devices (and if you don't, I'll be sure to circle back to that how-to another time) - but how many of you take advantage of the fact that our devices can read TO US too?! Whether your eyes often get tired from staring at the screen during a long digital read, you need to hear the wording read back aloud when typing up a paper, or you're just more of an audible learner - this feature is a gamer changer!
No matter what device I'm using, one of my absolute favorite tools to utilize is the text to speech feature!
*for all of these commands, there is typically a setting that needs to be turned on - often found under "Accessibility" > "Spoken Content" or "Speech" with the ability to customize and create a custom shortcut for convenience*
On a Mac: simply select the text you want read aloud, right click your highlighted selection, click on "Speech" in the drop down menu - and press "start speaking"
On iOS Devices: similar to the Mac - highlight any of the text you want read aloud, and from the pop-up menu simply press "speak"
On Windows Devices: press the Windows Key + Ctrl + Enter to open the narrator feature
On Android Devices: to be honest, I'd have to get my hands on an android device in order to test this one out (lol) BUT I've read that it's as simple as turning on "select to speak" under "accessibility", then pressing the shortcut on any page, or after making any selection you want read aloud
*I would LOVE for someone to confirm this one for me below 😉
Microsoft Office Apps also have a nifty little "Read Aloud" option typically located on the top left corner of the "Review" panel
For any specific questions on how to get your devices reading to you, definitely reach out and I'd love to help you configure your settings to accommodate this amazing feature!
